The Lucy Joy Quartet is the latest of a long line of innovative modern jazz groups to emerge out of the Guildhall School of Music and Drama’s jazz department. Led by vocalist and composer Lucy Joy, the group perform her original songs which fuse rolling, swaggering modal jazz and sensual, rich female vocal songwriting. Influenced by Blossom Dearie, McCoy Tyner, Wayne Shorter and Betty Carter, but also by Radiohead, Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds and Led Zeppelin, the Lucy Joy Quartet is eclectic and diverse in its approach, but always energetic, dynamic and exciting.
